Why Should You Even Consider REI Outdoor Travel Adventures?

Sharing is caring!

One of my favorite companies in the world is REI. They provide lots of great outdoor gear at low price. Whenever I step inside REI, I feel like a kid at a candy store. I just start drooling. When I head outside into nature, the same thing happens. My heart rate falls and I feel at peace. I feel better. Life doesn’t seem so bad. One way to get that magical feeling is with REI Outdoor Travel Adventures. I know what you’re thinking though. Why Should You Even Consider REI Outdoor Travel Adventures?

Fortunately for you though, this article has got you covered.

Let’s get started.

Imagine Yourself in Nature’s Loving Arms

The sun smiles down on your face. The wind cools the sweat on your arms. Each trickle of the stream passing you by is a reminder of why you are out here in the first place. You are living your best life, a life most people would have said is impossible but not for you. You made treating yourself a priority.

Think of, oh, all the different places you’ll go if you head outside: chasing wildebeest on the Serengeti, surfing waves on the shores of Costa Rica, marveling at the magnificent mountains of Patagonia, kayaking in Baja California. All of these options and more are potential adventures for you. Each one of these places is a wonderful getaway sure to relieve your weary spirit.

You can get a similar feeling if you go to a place near home and adventuring there, but it’s not the same as making a conscious effort to really get away. When you are in a part of nature you have never been to, you look at the world in a whole other way.

Life seems more miraculous. Wow, you never thought that was possible. When I say that, I am talking about trees, shrubs, streams, mountains, plains, rivers, climates, weather, and other aspects of nature in mixed and matched combinations. It’s one thing to live where you’re at. It’s another to live something else entirely for a bit as a change of pace. You refresh, reset, and start seeing the world from a different perspective.

You need this.

Stop Making Excuses and Start Living

There are a million and one reasons to not get outdoors. I’ll list some of them for you: no time, no money, responsibilities, school, work, girlfriend, boyfriend, church, and struggles. I could go on, but that would take up a whole other article. I get it though. Everyone uses an excuse at one point or another. It’s fine to do so every now and again. I’ve done it too. But when your excuses become a habit, then you have a problem. Life zips by you before you know it.

You need to make time for yourself, no one else but you. This kind of special, reserved time is what you need. It lets you discover parts of your self, reset your drained batteries, and embrace vitality once again.

Nature gets you to smile. The greenery, mountains, and streams calm you down. They relieve your weary spirit.

It is easy to get stuck in the rat race especially when everyone is telling you to do it. The media reruns stories of entrepreneurs who hustled, bustled, and worked themselves trying to reach riches; school piles on loads of homework and tells you to take on debt and pretty much promises a solid career after graduation but it’s a chimera; and work tacks on more shifts to grind you.

People don’t realize they are in an echo chamber until they step outside. Often times ‘outside’ means literally stepping outside for a time. When your eyes examine the world, they relay what they see to your mind telling it whether you are in a new environment or the same old place. If you are in the latter, your brain sticks to its habits.

If you are in the former however, your body slows down to take in everything. It focuses on the here and now to better deal with the world. You want this kind of experience instead.

It’s time to wake up and live the life meant for you.

5 Big Reasons You Should Sign Up

1. If You are a Beginner, this Program is a Great Starting Point.

No matter your skill level, you will have a memorable and enjoyable outdoor experience with REI. They will take care of you. If you are worried about slipping through the cracks, REI has a safety net to catch you in case you falter.

I recently returned from my first ever backpacking trip through OPERS at UCSC. It was a group adventure and just wild to say the least. There were times when I was really struggling. If I had gone by myself without anyone else, it would have been a problem. I would not have made it out. But because I was in a group, we learned from one another. The group energy propeled us all forward.

Before the trip, I had no idea how to use a backpacking stove. Now though, I can say I am an expert.

When you are on one of REI’s adventures, you can expect a similar experience. Whenever you make an error, someone will point it out and help you solve it. If you want to learn skills, nothing beats in the field guidance from a pro.

All the help lays the groundwork for future outdoor fun.

2. Your Smartphone is a Cigarette Addiction.

Back in time way before restrictions were placed on cigarettes in the US, people smoked on a regular basis. They destroyed their bodies and minds with nicotine. They took smoke breaks at work to get rid of stress. If they were overwhelmed with kids or school, they stepped outside and inhaled. Little did they know they were making the problem worse.

The same goes for your smartphone. People feel it is okay to habitually whip out their phone in front of others, ignore them, and then jump back into the conversation. When either one of us doesn’t want to do something, we whip out our phones. If you don’t want to finish something, you hop on your phone. It’s not okay. Don’t get me wrong. I sometimes feel I couldn’t live without my phone, but it is a problem for both of us.

You need a technology break.

A trip outdoors is sure to help with that. The cell signal is often not the best and it’s often seen as really rude to ignore someone in front of you with your phone on a camping trip.

If you go outdoors with a group, you can safely leave your phone with staff for safekeeping. Bye bye phone. Hello living in the moment.

When you go outdoors for a week without a phone, you are certain to feel relieved afterwords. I guarantee it.

3. REI is an Excellent Brand.

REI, in other words, has been around the block. They are reputable and revered for their outdoor gear. I just love going to their stores. I feel like one of the kids in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. My mouth drools with excitement.

Because they are a co-op unlike many other companies in the outdoor world, REI is owned by its workers. Worker ownership means they put the heart of the customer first. They want to do right by you. Their priority isn’t money, but people.

They only want to give you the best experience possible.

4. Nothing will Inspire You More than a Solid Outdoor Trip.

One of these trips is not just about the handful of days you spend in the outdoors. It is also about the time afterwards, the renewed vitality you feel afterwards. The outdoors lights a spark and ignites a fire in your eyes. With the inspirational experience spent in the wild, you will want to do something like it again in the future.

You smile more. You feel good. You want more experiences like this one. With the incredible journey of an outdoor adventure under your belt, life takes on a different perspective. Life becomes more enjoyable.

Instead of hustling from one place to another time and time again, you want to take the time to stop and smell the roses. The outdoors provides that.

5. Life is Short. Nature Reminds You of What Really Matters in Life.

The outdoors are guaranteed to calm you down. You look up at the sky and wonder what your life means to the world. It gives you time to think and reflect.

I am going to tell you straight up. You are going to die one day. You will turn to dust and be gone. No one knows what will happen, but life will go on with or without you. Before we exist, we do not have any memory or pain. After we exist, life goes on. You are here only for the interim. Nothing exists before and after you. Are you going to spend your time stuck in a cubicle slowly breathing in and out trying to get through the day? Or are you going to life that matters to you?

It’s your decision. The outdoors puts what really matters into perspective.

You Will Be a Better Person Afterwards

Studies have repeatedly shown time spent in nature is worthwhile time. You improve your mood, well-being, physical fitness, and energy levels. Time in nature is holistic, covering all the bases of your body. If you spend a week outside, you will feel better afterwards.

You feel better and get all the benefits of meditation without becoming a zen Buddhist monk.

When you spend time outdoors, you take care of yourself. You say, “look, I need a break.” It’s not a cop out to step away from your life for a bit; it’s healthy rejuvenation.
